Full details are in for the high-def release of the Asian horror hit 'The Host,' which Magnolia says it will unleash on Blu-ray and HD DVD this July.
Pre-release information had indicated only an HD DVD version of 'The Host,' but the studio has now officially announced that the title will make its debut on both next-gen formats simultaneous with standard-def DVD on July 24.
Tech specs are snot yet available, but the Blu-ray and HD DVD versions should see a wealth of matching supplements. Among the feastings are an audio commentary with the filmmakers, four featurettes, deleted scenes and a gag reel.
Magnolia has set a $34.95 list price for each version.
You'll find links to product pages for both titles (with full specs, including box art) in our Blu-ray Release Schedule and HD DVD Release Schedule, under July 24.

Hide the children and pets! Magnolia Home Entertainment plans to let the Asian scare flick 'The Host' loose to feast on HD DVD this summer.
Though 'The Host' has enjoyed only a very limited theatrical release in the U.S., it has quickly earned a reputation as the biggest cult horror flick the genre has seen in years.
Magnolia says it will bring the ode to classic monster movies to HD DVD on July 24. No specs are yet available, though the preliminary info from the indie distributor indicates a special edition, so we look forward to at least some supplemental features.
List price has been set at a suggested $29.98.
Magnolia currently has no word on a comparable Blu-ray version. However, given that the majority of their past releases have ultimately been released on both formats, a Blu-ray announcement may be forthcoming.
We've added a new listing for 'The Host' to our HD DVD Release Schedule, under July 24. Watch this space for full details to come in the days ahead.

Pssst! Magnolia Brings 'World's Fastest Indian' to Blu-ray, HD DVD

Indie Magnolia continues its stealth next-gen release campaign, sneaking 'The World's Fastest Indian' into stores this week on Blu-ray and HD DVD.
The aggressive distributor, co-owned by HDNet founder and entrepreneur Mark Cuban, has been one of the few indies to support either high-definition format. So far, they have released over a half-dozen titles on Blu-ray and HD DVD, including Steven Soderbergh's controversial 'Bubble,' 'Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room' and 'The Architect.'
Oddly, however, obtaining information on their releases has proven difficult, with little news available until their titles actually appear up on Amazon, ready for sale.
The trend continued this past Tuesday, with Magnolia releasing 'The World's Fastest Indian,' an acclaimed drama starring Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins, on both Blu-ray and HD DVD with little fanfare.
The impressive release includes a 1080p transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround audio, and a wealth of bonus features, including filmmaker commentary, an archival documentary, multiple featurettes and deleted scenes.
Like all of Magnolia's next-gen titles, list price for 'The World's Fastest Indian' is $29.95.
Specs for all of Magnolia's current and upcoming high-def releases have now been added to both our Blu-ray Release Schedule and HD DVD Release Schedule.
We've also been in touch with the distributor, and hope to have more updated info in the future, as well as complete reviews of all of their Blu-ray and HD DVD titles, past and present. Watch this space...

On December 5, Magnolia Pictures will make home entertainment history when it brings the indie drama 'The Architect' to theaters, standard-def DVD, Blu-ray and HD DVD simultaneously.
Though Magnolia has previously released titles in high-def that had previously made day-and-date debuts in theaters and on standard-def DVD, most notably Steven Soderbergh's 'Bubble,' 'The Architect' is the first to premiere on Blu-ray and HD DVD concurrent with the DVD and theatrical releases.
While full tech specs are not yet available for 'The Architect,' both the Blu-ray and HD DVD versions will include 1.78:1 widescreen 1080p video transfers plus a director's audio commentary, deleted scenes and a featurette.
Magnolia has set a $34.95 suggested list price for each release.
We've added new listings for 'The Architect' to both our HD DVD Release Schedule, and Blu-ray Release Schedule, and we'll keep you posted when final specs come in.
