One of the most highly-anticipated titles of the year is hitting high-def on November 28, when Warner Home Video will release 'Superman Returns' on DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray.
The nearly $200 million-grossing hit will receive a 1080p/VC-1 transfer on both formats, with the HD DVD release featuring a Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 surround track, and the Blu-ray edition getting a standard Dolby Digital 5.1 surround (though both are encoded at the identical bitrate of 640kbps).
Note that the HD DVD release will also be a DVD combo platter, featuring all the same extras as the standard-def two-disc set, including nearly three hours of bonus material. Goodies include the five-part "Requiem for Krypton: Making 'Superman Returns'" documentary, the "Resurrecting Jor-El" featurette, ten deleted scenes and the theatrical trailer.
As for the Blu-ray edition, Warner has confirmed it is to be the studio's first BD-50 dual-layer release. Though exact supplements are not yet known, it is expected to include the same goodies as the HD DVD and DVD versions.
Warner has set a $39.95 list price for 'Superman Returns' on HD DVD, and $34.95 for the Blu-ray.
